Keysight PROPSIM FS16 RF Channel Emulator

Key Features and Functions

Scalable RF Channel Emulator for Diverse Use Cases

Keysight’s PROPSIM FS16 compact benchtop channel emulator enables users to perform benchmarking in laboratory of devices, base stations, digital radio and sensor systems across the entire product workflow – from research, development, to acceptance and field performance optimization. The PROPSIM FS16 emulates in real-time the dynamic radio channels between transmitters and receivers. It cost effectively supports uni-directional and bi-directional fading test configurations required in wireless testing across 5G, LTE and aerospace and defense applications.

The channel emulator’s high modularity with flexible uni- and bi-directional operation of each RF port enables users to implement cost effective fading performance test systems for:

  • 5G Device MIMO and MIMO OTA fading tests
  • 5G Base station MIMO or uplink only Massive MIMO tests
  • WLAN 802.11ax access points and devices
  • Automotive wireless connectivity validation
  • WLAN 802.11ax access point and client testing
  • Keysight Virtual Drive Testing Toolset

PROPSIM FS16 supports a wide RF frequency range, from 3MHz to 44GHz, and an ultrawide instantaneous signal bandwidth feature for realistic, repeatable low-cost laboratory testing in the following use cases:

  • Tactical Radio Networks, MESH networks up to 16 full MESH/Nodes
  • Aerospace and Satellite testing up to 16 simultaneous links
  • Mixed terrestrial, aerospace and satellite radio system testing simultaneously

Modular real-time RF channel emulator – Flexibility

Keysight’s PROPSIM FS16 offers high modularity from 2 up to 16 (T)RX/TX RF ports in one unit and maximum of 4 devices can be chained to expand the setup. Access to uni-directional and bi-directional RF ports creates efficient use of channel emulation resources and provides a cost-effective path towards investing in channel emulation capacity as requirements evolve.

The channel emulator’s high modularity with wide signal bandwidth leads to superior RF performance for RF channel emulation to addressing a wide range of test needs in both the wireless and aerospace defense industry.

Versatile channel emulation and modeling software to simplify complex testing

The sophisticated channel modeling software applications and ease of use emulation control software allow user to quickly initiate testing and create new scenario-based test cases.

Keysight’s PROPSIM Geometric Channel Modeling tool (GCM) simplifies the creation of multi-link test scenarios for wireless testing and special radio systems testing. The GCM tool supports user defined 3D spatial scenarios and dynamic modeling of movement for 5G NR FR1 and FR2 and LTE-A testing by using following models (3GPP TR 38.901 / TR 36.873):

  • UMi, UMa, O2I and I2O
  • CDL and TDL
  • WINNER
  • SCME

The GCM tool also supports Ray-tracing data import and 3D Antenna parameter inclusion in to channel model. It offers 3GPP defined channel models to test V2X safety applications as well as for on board Wi-Fi and cellular connection. In addition, Device-to-Device, V2X topologies and 3GPP channel models are supported for automotive testing. The GCM tool provides an interface to import data, which allows advanced users to bring test scenario data from external simulation tools. This makes PROPSIM a powerful platform enabling users to create complex environmental emulations with few clicks.

Keysight’s Virtual Drive Testing (VDT) Toolset enables users to perform RF field-to-lab test scenarios. Users can easily import 5G NR, LTE, WCDMA, GSM RF data to a lab environment using Keysight’s Nemo drive test tools or an equivalent drive test tool with an open file format interface.

Keysight’s WLAN modeling tool allows users to quickly create complex 802.11ax channel model realizations.
